The Bharshiva dynasty (170–350) was the most powerful dynasty of the pre-Gupta period. The Nagas of Vidisha moved to Mathura and start annexing other kingdoms under Virasena. They made Padmavati Pawaya, Kantipuri and Vidisha their capitals and placed their family members as rulers of the states. The Nagas of Mathura were the head of the Bharshiva dynasty according to K.P. Jayaswal.〔Jayaswal KP. p. 16.〕 ==Nagas of Mathura== Because of the Decline of Kushanas, Nagas of Mathura under King Virasena gain Independence and establish Bharshiva Dynasty.The Bharshiva territories extended from Malwa to Eastern Punjab and had three capitals at Mathura,Kantipuri and Padmavati.〔A Panorama of Indian Culture: Professor A. Kusuman, p. 153〕 After Virasena Nag, famly of Padmavati succeeded him and start ruling over whole Bharshiva Empire, but after short period of time, Bharshiva Empire got divided into three parts.〔Dimensions of Human Cultures in Central India: Professor S.K.
